WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) - Arizona Senator John McCain, R-Ariz., has become "increasingly frail" following his diagnosis of glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer, according to sources cited by CNN.

The sources also reported that the senator has been quieter than normal during GOP meetings.

On Wednesday, it was announced McCain returned to Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. A statement from his office reported it was "for normal side effects of his ongoing cancer therapy."

“Senator McCain is currently receiving treatment at Walter Reed Medical Center for normal side effects of his ongoing cancer therapy. As ever, he remains grateful to his physicians for their excellent care, and his friends and supporters for their encouragement and good wishes. Senator McCain looks forward to returning to work as soon as possible," the statement read.

Radiation therapy is given to treat the kind of tumor McCain has. Its purpose is to attack the cancer's cells, but it can cause swelling in and around the tumors, according to CNN's Sanjay Gupta.

Also on Wednesday, former Vice President Joe Biden made an appearance on ABC's "The View," speaking with Senator's John McCain's daughter, Meghan McCain about cancer. He took time to comfort the senator's daughter.

The Senator tweeted a thank you to the former vice president.
