DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — Protestors took to the Pennsylvania Capitol today to protest the President and his administration's recent announcement to cut more than 80,000 jobs from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
“We went to war, we did our service to our country and we have people who are trying to cut our care,” said John Flood, the protest organizer.
Around 50 people were at the Capitol for the protest, one of multiple protests across the United States today.
“You know we did our duty for our country and it’s important that we are provided that care and services that we’ve earned,” Flood said.
Republicans understand the concerns of protestors, but do not feel that the cuts will take away the care that veterans claim will be taken away.
“I get it. People‘s jobs or benefits might be affected,” said Senator Doug Mastriano. “I don’t think, and I haven’t heard at least at the federal level, that any of the veterans' benefits will be affected.”
Protestors say the fight is only beginning. “One thing that we’re looking at doing is going to our VA clinics itself in our VA hospitals and taking this protest out to those as well to let the veterans know that and the support staff that work at the VA that we got back,” Flood said.
